Jamie was the guitarist in Fields, who were responsible for three of the most memorable Sonic Cathedral nights ever. He plays his first solo show as Prayer Meeting at our Spectrum show next month. Better buy a ticket ASAP.
Jamie has a whole arsenal of effects pedals (he even shelled out for one of these recently), but his favourite is the decidedly retro looking 1970s box of tricks known as the Carlsbro Mantis.
Jamie takes up the story: “I found this amazing old analogue delay unit in a junk shop in Ireland when Fields recorded ‘Everything Last Winter’. I’ve never heard anything else quite like it – a deep, lush, wobbly, almost sub-aquatic sound – like Robin Guthrie jamming with Neptune. It was always fun to take through US customs due to its resemblance to a Cold War explosive device.”
