This week’s Running Shoes mix has been put together by our old mate Stewart Nash. As well as designing this very website and running the Creation Records and Ride Archives sites for years , Stewart now hosts the essential weekly Rave Down Radio show on Future Radio every Wednesday at 7pm. “I was the asthmatic kid at school, I think it’s fair to say I wasn’t a sporty kid anyway,” Stewart explains of his relationship with running and exercise in general. “In fact, I hated sport, music was my passion and sport was for squares.
“For the next few decades I was going to gigs, pubs or clubs, but at some point I knew if I wanted to remain vaguely healthy in middle age I had to change and do some exercise. It took me a couple of attempts to complete the Couch to 5k and I was overtaken by plenty of snails and even a sloth; I was such a sweaty, unhealthy mess. Eventually, however, it clicked and I now had a new way to not only listen to music but also clear out all the clutter in my brain (some people call it stress).
“Since then I’ve actually skipped the occasional gig or trip to the pub because I had to be up early for a run in the morning. This New Year’s Day I was standing in a park with loads of strangers at 8am in the freezing cold for a Park Run. I loved it.
“This mix is deliberately designed to start gradually, then get you into a pace followed by a big push near the end with a nice gentle warm down. Enjoy!”
