Lorena Quintanilla from Lorelle Meets The Obsolete has announced a solo album under the alias J. Zunz.
Hibiscus, the second release under the J. Zunz name, is released via Rocket Recordings on August 21 and will be up for pre-order from Friday, July 3. Watch the video for the first single ‘Y’ above.
It has a much more stripped down, intimate and personal sound than Lorelle’s immersive and intense psychedelia.
“Lorelle is a collaboration, so every individual idea is transformed into something else. And I love that, but somehow I felt that I needed another outlet. I just needed simplicity,” explains Lorena.
“I remember I was reading a biography of John Cage and that book detonated something in me. The author was referring to the influence of Buddhism and meditation, and modern artists like Sonia Delaunay, Lucio Fontana, Julio Le Parc, Duchamp, futirism. I was very charged with ideas.”
