Mark Peters remixes Leeds singer-songwriter Elkyn

Mark Peters has remixed a track for Leeds-based singer-songwriter Elkyn.

The new version of ‘Yue’ is taken from an EP collecting together remixes from Elkyn’s debut album, Beech, which was released in July.

“I was listening to My Bloody Valentine when I did the remix of ‘Yue’,” explains Mark of his expansive reworking. “I like the juxtaposition of sadness and darkness on the tracks ‘No More Sorry’ and ‘Moon Song’ which have an almost industrial landscape, although created with guitar effects, not electronics, and the vocal drifts mournfully over the top, as if Kevin Shields is wandering over a deserted post industrial landscape. Given that there’s a sweet bucolic longing in the original version of ‘Yue’, I felt this would be a surprising and compelling way to rework the track and I’m glad I did – I think it brings out the feeling of desolation in the lyrics.”

The Beech Remixes EP is out now and is available on all digital services, including Bandcamp (below).
