Andy Bell releases the last two instalments of his Ever Decreasing Circles series of releases today (June 11).
Part three is the All On You EP, which is available on a limited edition green vinyl 7” and digital.
The EP features acoustic radio session versions of tracks from Andy’s debut album, The View From Halfway Down, plus a cover of Paris Angels’ ‘Perfume’, which as everyone should know is only one of the best songs of all time. The digital release also adds a version of ‘The Commune’.
“Last year I was lucky enough to be invited to record sessions for several radio stations – one of the only ways I could promote the album as we were in the midst of lockdown when the record came out,” explains Andy. “XS Manchester asked if could record a cover of a song by a Manchester artist, so I chose ‘Perfume’ by Paris Angels as it’s a song I’ve always loved, ever since it first came out in 1990.”
The tracks were recorded at home by Andy, mastered by Heba Kadry and the artwork is by Marc Jones using imagery from the ‘Love Comes In Waves’ video by Innerstrings.
The Ever Decreasing Circles are completed by Another View, a CD compiling all of the tracks from the three EPs, including eight Pye Corner Audio remixes, plus the acoustic version of ‘The Commune’ that wouldn’t fit on the 7”.
“We luckily had room to include everything,” says Andy. “I think about it as a kind of Hatful Of Hollow in that it collects session versions of debut album tracks, along with previously single-only tracks and brand new versions. The title is a nod to The Velvet Underground’s odds and sods collection.”
Meanwhile, Andy has put together a Further Listening playlist for the superb South record shop in Southend. It features tracks from the EPs, along with favourites by This Mortal Coil, Spacemen 3, Pye Corner Audio, Moon Diagrams, Ride, Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan and many more. Have a listen here.
